The Big Idea (Part 10)

How many people did you think suffer from migraines in the U.S.? 38 million people suffer from migraines in the U.S. How many migraine specialists do you think are in the US.? There are only 500 migraine specialists compared to 38 million people who suffer. Do you think that is a good ratio? We should probably have more migraine specialists in the U.S. for our population.

The Big Project (Part 9)

Did you know that June is migraine and other headaches awareness month? It's important enough to get a month of awareness like many other causes. Doesn't that say something about how many have migraines and how disabling they are that they have an awareness month for it. Please, be aware of people with migraines and other chronic headaches during June wherever you are.

The Big Project (Part 8)

Something I should have told you first was where the term "Migraine" is from. Originally, it was from the Greek prefix "hemi-" (half) and Greek word "kranion" (cranium), equaling hemikrania, a pain on one side of the head. Then, the word was translated in Latin, and then it was finally creating the word "migraine" from medieval France.

The Big Project (Part 7)

We already looked at how people are getting affected by the problem and how they are getting medicated, but who is paying for the research? I've found that organizations like the Migraine Research Foundation research and record information about migraines. Along with the Migraine Research Foundation, government agencies such as the National Institute of Health (NIH) and the Department of Defense (DOD) research this headache. Even the government believes that these hindering headaches are important enough to invest funds into.

The Big Project (Part 6)

Now, what triggers these headaches? According to http://www.medicinenet.com/migraine/article.htm, migraines can be caused by hormonal changes, stress, strong stimuli, and many other ways like certain foods. Wouldn't it help if you could know what started your migraines, so you never had to have them ever again.

The Big Project (Part 5)

Migraines, like lots of diseases, are having research found to get medication. Even with the medication, some doctors say that some aren't for everyone. Unfortunately, some of the medication cause drowsiness, make you tired, or even dizzy. Hopefully, they will come out with medication that can suit all types of people.

The Big Project (Part 4)

If you didn't know, migraines are usually more than just headaches. For example, migraines may include visual disturbances, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, extreme sensitivity to sound, light, and touch, and many other symptoms. Isn't that something that would really affect you if you had it. It does for me.
I apologize for not posting last week. I was at Honor Band.
